Authentication of Sports Memorabilia?

How do i validate the authenticity of sports memorabilia if I am unable to locate the business the coa is issued from? I purchased an autographed baseball bat for my boyfriend on ebay. The coa has the companies information on it, but I cannot locate them online to validate their reputation.

1. coas are not worth the paper they are printed on. the only way to be sure is to have it authenticated by a reputable dealer. some charge a fee for this service.
