Why is it called World Series Baseball when its only played in the USA?

- Its not just played in the usa dumba ss..
- because we in america think the world revovles around us
- Because the world revolves around the U.S.A.
- I don't know. They always say that. I guess the rest of the Planet doesn't count.
- Canada is involved. So it isn't just played in the USA is it. One day the Caribbean and Japan will join too, I just know it. Well, they better, cause it is getting pretty boring.
- I've always said that the MLB is the United States Champions however, now that they're signing all these players from over seas then I can see where they are coming from. Most of the players have some sort of Latin decent in them. But still....If you want it to WORLD...you need to play against, CHINA, JAPAN and any other country that has a team.
- It used to be because only america played but today a large percentage of professional baseball players are from other countries. If another country could field an entire team that could play at the level of one of our professional teams, I'm sure Bud Selig would like nothing better than to go global. Until that happens the worlds best baseball players will just have to come here.
- why don't you ask the creators of the world series and find out??
- When the term "World's Championship Series" was first used in the 1880s, baseball at a highly-skilled level was almost exclusively confined to North America, especially the United States. Thus it was understood that the winner of the major league championship was the best baseball team in the world. The title of this event was soon shortened to "World's Series" and later to "World Series". The United States continued to be the only professional baseball country until some decades into the 20th Century. The first Japanese professional baseball efforts began in 1920. The current Japanese leagues date from the late 1940s. Various Latin American leagues also formed around that time. By the 1990s, baseball was played at a highly skilled level in many countries, resulting in a strong international flavor to the Series, as many of the best players from the Pacific Rim, Latin America, the Caribbean, and elsewhere now play on Major League rosters. So, in short, since the best players in the world play in the US major leagues, it is called the "World Series."
- The rest of the world sucks.
- Tall Green Alien pretty much said what I was gonna say.
- its called that because the best of the best play in the MLB and the MLB is seen as the highest level of baseball that most players around the world aim to play in.
- When the WS was first played, the U.S. was the only country in the world that played baseball.
- If you're literal . . . it makes no sense. But a world series ball is specifically made to be used in the World Series.
- The best players from all over the world play in MLB and every single team has a diverse roster with players from the United States, Canada, many Central and South American countries and the Carribean. A good number of teams also have players from Asia (Korea, Taiwan, Japan). So it truly is a world competition.
